چکیده

Fifty-six combined right and left heart catheterizations in normal dogs and clogs with experimental mitral stenosis failed to show a significant positive correlation between pulmonary artery wedge pressure and pulmonary vein pressure when the latter was below approximately 17 mm. Hg. Evidence is presented which suggests that the wedged catheter outlets are totally occluded in many instances in the flog. Pulmonary vein wedge pressure reflected a pressure nearer the pulmonary artery pressure than the expected capillary pressure. One instance of mitral regurgitation revealed large pulmonary vein and pulmonary artery wedge pulse pressures.

Hemodynamic effects of elevated cerebrospinal fluid pressure: alterations with adrenergic blockade.

The cardiovascular effects of elevated cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure were studied in 18 dogs, 6 in a control group, 6 after alpha adrenergic blockade, and 6 after beta adrenergic blockade. Vascular pressures did not change until CSF pressure was increased from 100 mm Hg to 200 mm Hg. In the control group, the aortic, pulmonary arterial, wedge, and right atrial pressures increased significa...

Abnormal coronary vascular response to exercise in dogs with severe right ventricular hypertrophy.

Measurements of right coronary artery blood flow, aortic and right ventricular (RV) pressures and heart rate were radiotelemetered during strenuous, spontaneous exercise in normal dogs and dogs with severe RV hypertrophy induced by chronic (5-6 mo) pulmonary artery stenosis. With fixed pulmonic stenosis, dogs with RV hypertrophy exhibited a decrease (P less than 0.01) in arterial pressure durin...

Cardiac function in experimental mitral stenosis.

The results of S5 combined right and left heart catheterizations in normal dogs and dogs with experimental mitral stenosis are presented. Animals lived as long as 10 months with elevated pulmonary vein pressures. Pulmonary vein pressures in excess of 15 mm. Hg were associated with mitral orifice areas which were smaller than those found in normal animals. Elevation of pulmonary vein pressure wa...

The Relationship of Pulmonary Venous Wedge

A comparison of pressure levels and pressure-time relationships in pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) and pulmonary venous wedge pressure (PVWP) tracings was made from cardiac catheterization records of 60 patients, aged 1 day to 16 years. In 50 patients with normal or low PAP's there was close correlation between systolic, diastolic, and mean pressures in the two sites. In all 10 patients with pu...

Basics of pediatric pulmonary hypertension

A 13-year-old girl follows up with her pediatrician after an episode of syncope while running. She reports feeling more short of breath with activities and more fatigued. The pediatrician notes her to be in no acute distress, with a thin build, clear lung fields with normal saturations, and prominent precordium on exam with mild tachycardia. She has a 2/6 systolic murmur noted at the left lower...
